South Boston - - - On Saturday, September 15, Mt. Washington Bank officially celebrated the opening of its new branch in Codman Square at 305 Talbot Avenue. A $4 million economic development project and the largest of its kind west of Washington Street in over a decade, the new Codman Square branch is a welcomed addition to the neighborhood.

Like so much of what Mt. Washington Bank does in terms of being a “great corporate citizen” and a good, inclusive neighbor, the grand opening day’s activities focused on the community and their customers. Beginning at 11AM planned activities included a cash cube, barbeque, along with entertainment by on-air personality Maverick from ‘Jamin 94.5FM and the 94.5FM Street Team Live DJ. There was also raffles and give-aways, along with kids face painting and free tickers to Monster Jam.

The opening of the Codman Square location is the fifth branch for Mt. Washington Bank and its second in Dorchester. Less than three years ago, the Bank opened a branch on Gallivan Boulevard and part of the vast and diverse community of one of Boston’s largest neighborhoods. The Codman Square branch will serve as a model for other new Mt. Washington Bank branches in terms of design and amenities that will be offered to their customers including a café area, community room and digital signage.

“We are very excited to be part of the vibrant community of residents and small businesses of Codman Square and are proud to be offering a true community banking alternative. Whether it’s a totally free checking or business checking account, a small business loan or planning for retirement, the dedicated Mt. Washington Bank team at Codman Square is there to personally serve them,” said Edward J. Merritt, President and CEO of Mt. Washington Bank.

Founded in 1893, Mt. Washington Bank has stayed committed to the promise outlined in its mission statement by being "full-service independent bank, offering financial services to meet the needs of its retail and small business community. Mt. Washington recently announced the opening of its new Gallivan Boulevard branch in Dorchester, representing the Bank's fourth branch location in addition to a stand alone loan center.
