Boston, MA - - -Demolition work has begun at the future site of the Mt. Washington Bank branch in Codman Square. According to Bank officials the demolition phase of the project should be completed in January. This $4 million development project, located at 305-319 Talbot Avenue, is an important addition to the landscape west of Washington Street in Codman Square. When completed this new 4,000 square foot facility will include a room that can accommodate up to 30 people and be used for community meetings and events. The branch is slated to open in September 2007.

“We are very excited that the demolition work is underway and that this very important development project is moving forward. Mt. Washington Bank could not be more proud about expanding its operation to Codman Square and believe this branch will be very successful. As a company that is passionate about being a great corporate citizen and neighbor, we believe that Mt. Washington Bank will contribute to the success and future development of the entire Codman Square neighborhood,” said Ed Merritt, President and CEO of Mt. Washington Bank.

Mt. Washington Bank was one of six organizations to submit a proposal to develop the former city owned parcel. It was selected last summer by the Department of Neighborhood Development to buy the land and develop the site. From the outset, the Bank received wide-spread support from the community for its plan to bring its full range of financial services to the area. The new branch will have ample customer parking, a two lane remote drive-through and a 24- hour ATM.

“We are very pleased that Mt. Washington Bank has chosen this site and the Codman Square neighborhood for its next branch location. Mt. Washington Bank has a great reputation as a corporate citizen in our city, and this multi-million dollar development on Talbot Avenue is another great example of their commitment to Boston’s neighborhoods,” said Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.

“We are delighted that Mt. Washington Bank will be our neighbor. We are thrilled that they are expanding to Codman Square. Codman Academy looks forward to strengthening its relationship with them. They have been such a great community partner and will be an invaluable asset to this area,” said Meg Campbell, head of school of Codman Academy.

Founded in 1893, Mt. Washington Bank has stayed committed to the promise outlined in its mission statement by being "full-service independent bank, offering financial services to meet the needs of its retail and small business community. Mt. Washington recently announced the opening of its new Gallivan Boulevard branch in Dorchester, representing the Bank's fourth branch location in addition to a stand alone loan center.
