About Us - Press Releases Mt. Washington Bank Awards Scholarships
to local Students Contact: Lauren Mann Edward J. Merritt, President and CEO of Mt. Washington Bank, in addressing the recipients and their guests, noted that since the bank instituted the scholarship program thirteen years ago, it has awarded more than $ 70,000 to worthy students from the communities it serves. According to Merritt, it was on the occasion of the bank’s 100th anniversary that its board of directors decided to set aside $ 100,000 to support the scholarship program. In congratulating the recipients on their academic success, Merritt urged the students to continue pursuing their educational goals. Msgr. Thomas McDonnell, chairman of the Scholarship Committee, oversaw the selection process and noted a marked increase in this year’s scholarship application pool from previous years. This year’s scholarship recipients will be attending the following
schools in the fall: Harvard University, UMass Boston, UMass Dartmouth,
Boston College High School, Fontbonne Academy and Mt. St. Joseph Academy.
