Nearly 300 people turned out for the 6th Annual Business Persons Breakfast
hosted by Mt. Washington Bank on May 17, 2005 at the Bayside Expo Center
in Dorchester. Featuring Dr. Charles Steinberg, Executive Vice President/Public
Affairs of the Boston Red Sox as guest speaker, this special program drew
the highest attendance since its launch in 2000.
In his remarks, Dr. Steinberg illustrated the 2004 Red Sox’ road
trip to success, describing the individual talents of the players and
the collaborative team effort that ultimately earned them the title World
Champions. Dr. Steinberg discussed the faith and beliefs that unite and
inspire the Red Sox, including the enormous energy they derive from their
fans. Likening the relationship of the team and its supporting Red Sox
nation with Mt. Washington Bank and its customers, he also noted the importance
of earning loyal customers through equally committed business and services.
“It’s obvious that this Bank is committed to you.”
Ed Merritt, Mt. Washington Bank’s President and CEO, commented too
on the Bank’s close ties to its neighborhoods and its successful
expansion into Dorchester. Noting that the Bank is a mutual institution
that cannot be taken over or bought out, he declared “We belong
here. We’re not going anywhere.”
Merritt also mentioned the banks Charitable Foundation and how “doing
business with Mt. Washington Bank ultimately helps your communities”
because 10% of the Bank’s annual profits are given back through
charitable donations.
Founded in 1893, Mt. Washington Bank has stayed committed
to the promise outlined in its mission statement by being "full-service
independent bank, offering financial services to meet the needs of its
retail and small business community. Mt. Washington recently announced
the opening of its new Gallivan Boulevard branch in Dorchester, representing
the Bank's fourth branch location in addition to a stand alone loan center.
